White Sox clinch first-of-its-kind playoff berth. Chicago clinched an AL Wild Card berth, becoming the first MLB team ever to reach the playoffs directly after consecutive 100-loss seasons — one of four clubs to clinch Thursday.

The berth was secured with Chicago's 82nd victory of the season, according to ESPN, capping a turnaround from a stretch in which the club lost 324 games across the previous three years. No team in league history had previously gone straight from back-to-back 100-loss campaigns into the postseason, a mark the White Sox reached Thursday night.
