About

About The Morning Brief

The Morning Brief is a daily news digest. Five minutes, the facts that matter, no spin. Free, every morning Monday through Saturday.

Our mission

The Morning Brief exists to be the antidote to partisan media. Every weekday morning we read across the news — politics, business, science, technology, sports, and culture — and write up the stories that matter in plain, neutral language. We report what happened and why it matters, drawing on sources from across the political spectrum, and we never tell you what to think.

How we write

We write like a wire-service reporter, not a pundit. Stories are factual, sourced, and stripped of opinion. We give you the facts and the context, and we leave the opinions to you. We avoid hype and loaded language, and we attribute what we report.

Where the stories come from

The Morning Brief draws from roughly 81 RSS feeds across five categories — Politics & World, Business & Markets, Science & Technology, Sports / Entertainment / Culture, and General & Features. We balance our sourcing deliberately across the political spectrum — approximately 22% from left-of-center outlets, 56% from the center, and 22% from right-of-center outlets — so you get the full picture rather than one side of it.

What’s in every edition

The Morning Brief follows the same daily format, so you always know where to find what you need:

  • Need to Know: the day’s lead stories, each a synthesis of multiple sources.
  • In the Know: shorter roundups across Politics & World, Business & Markets, Science & Technology, and Sports, Entertainment & Culture.
  • By the Numbers: one number that explains more than a headline could.
  • What’s Ahead: the events and dates worth circling.
  • In Depth: a few longer reads worth your time.
  • Etcetera: the lighter items, plus a quote and a note from history.

When it arrives, and how long it takes

The Morning Brief arrives Monday through Saturday, around 7 AM Eastern. Each edition reads in about five minutes. It’s free.

Who it’s for
